Group Fitness, What’s it all about?

Maybe you’re the person who walks quickly past the door of the Group Fitness Studio, hoping the instructor and participants won’t notice you watching.  Maybe you’re thinking “I wish I looked that happy while I work out.” Maybe you’ve tried a class or two and are still looking for the one that feeds your soul. Or maybe you think Group Fitness is just leotards and leg warmers! We’ve all had thoughts like this float around our brains at some point (yes, even me, a diehard Group Fitness enthusiast since 1993).  While we’ve all had our own thoughts about Group Fitness, the universal question seems to be: “What is it about Group Fitness that makes working out seem like it’s fun?” Read on my friend…read on.

Camaraderie and Accountability:

What is it about camaraderie? (Or what I like to call “positive peer pressure.”) Group Fitness can seem intimidating — thirty people in a room, moving together, lifting weights, running, doing downward facing dogs, pushups, mountain climbers, indoor cycling, and even burpees! Who wants to do all of that alone?  Your friends are in that studio waiting to meet you and encourage you to discover your own strength. You’ve got this!  Guess who else is rooting for you when you take a class? The instructor! At American Family Fitness, our instructors are educated, kind, entertaining, consistent, well trained, and they care about you. Together, with your friends, in this studio, there is room for you to succeed every week because your new friends will be expecting you. Not so scary anymore, right?  Your friends will keep you accountable. Your instructor will keep you accountable. You will be missed when you’re not in class.

Periodized Training Set to Motivating Music:

You know your instructor is going to guide you safely through your workout while your friends are there next to you, and because of them you look forward to attending class each week. So, what else keeps you coming back for more? Periodized training. Periodized means that a training plan is updated regularly to continue to produce results over time. If you do the same thing day after day, you’ll get bored, right? So will your body as it adapts to the workout, and you may not feel or see the same results that you initially felt when you first began. Your instructor will switch up the workout every few weeks so that your body continues to grow stronger and move better. Consistently refreshed classes filled with functional movement and muscle training will keep your body and you accountable.  Set these workouts to motivating music that you can sing along to, and you are set to never miss another group workout again!

The Group Effect at American Family Fitness:

The philosophy of togetherness has been proven to drive results in Group Fitness, and American Family Fitness provides much of this togetherness through our MOSSA classes. You’ve probably already heard of most of them: ACTIVE, BLAST, CENTERGY, CORE, FIGHT, GROOVE, POWER, RIDE, and R30. What we love most about MOSSA is their mission “to get more people moving,” which aligns with our mission of improving the physical and mental well-being of all our members and each other.  To do this, we provide the best instructors around to deliver classes for all fitness levels. Whether you’re new to working out, coming back after a break, or have been working out your entire life, MOSSA and our team at American Family Fitness will provide you with a safe, effective workout that will leave you feeling strong and accomplished and wanting more.
