Frequently Asked Questions

This 45-minute appointment will begin with a body composition test followed by a Resting Metabolic Rate Test, results interpretation, and a professional recommendation for reaching your goals.

Body composition is measured using the InBody 270 scale.  Safe, low-level currents are sent through the body through the hand and foot electrodes. The impedance the currents encounter is measured, and from there, body composition is determined.InBody testing measures your weight, lean body mass, body fat mass, the total amount of water in your body, dry lean mass, body mass index, your percentage of body fat, as well as segmental lean mass (right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, and trunk). There is no dunking, no pinching and no discomfort.  Simply stand on the device and hold the hand electrodes to test and detailed results are providedand reviewed.

The Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) test directly measures the concentration of oxygen that a person breathes out while in a resting state to determine his/her exact calorie consumption. In this test, you will simply sit back and relax as you breathe through a mouthpiece.  Your exhaled air will be collected and analyzed.  Because there is a direct correlation between the oxygen consumed and calories burned, you will find out how many calories you burn each day. Knowing this can help you better understand your metabolism and how your body uses food energy.

Yes!  It is important to perform the Resting Metabolic Rate test at a true resting level. For best results for both tests:

  • Hydrate well the day prior to testing
  • Avoid eating four hours before the test.
  • Avoid exercising on the day of testing.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours prior to testing.
  • If possible, avoid the use of stimulants such as caffeine prior to testing.
  • During the test, get in a comfortable position and relax as much as possible.
  • Keep lips sealed tightly around the mouthpiece. It is important that all the air breathed out is analyzed.

If you are pregnant or have a life-sustaining medical device, such as a pacemaker, you may not complete the complimentary body composition test that is included in the appointment.
