Our Registered Dietitians are food and nutrition experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living and provide help with:

• Weight loss plateaus

• Healthy weight loss or gain

• Improving body composition

• Diet analysis

• Medical nutrition therapy such as helping managing food intolerances, cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and more.

• Nutrition recommendations based on evidence-based research.

Our Registered Dietitians also partner with our Personal Trainers throughout your training period.

All nutrition services offered at American Family Fitness are provided by our team of expert Registered Dietitians, and we proudly offer nutrition services to our members at the best, most affordable prices in the area! 

Pamela Speich

Director of Nutrition Services 

& Registered Dietitian:

• American Family Fitness Short Pump

Pam Speich is the Director of Nutrition Services at American Family Fitness and the Registered Dietitian at the Short Pump American Family Fitness location. She graduated from Carson Newman College with a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors in Foods and Nutrition with an Emphasis in Dietetics. She completed her Dietetic Internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and earned the credentials Registered Dietitian in 2000. In March 2018, Pam became a certified personal trainer.  

 

Pam’s experience includes nutrition counseling, wellness program development, public speaking, wellness research and writing, sales and marketing, and food labeling. Her areas of nutrition specialty include weight loss, heart healthy diets, diabetes, celiac disease, food allergies and intolerances, and low thyroid conditions.  What Pam loves most about being a dietitian is the opportunity to witness lives changed for the better through the power of food.

 

When Pam is not at the club, you are likely to find her at a sporting event with one or more of her three boys, traveling with her husband, or working on a home improvement project.

Murray Wood

Registered Dietitian at:

• American Family Fitness Chester

• American Family Fitness Colonial Heights

 

Murray Wood is the Registered Dietitian at the Chester and Colonial Heights American Family Fitness locations. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education & Recreation from Virginia State University. Murray completed his Dietetic Internship with the Virginia Department of Health in 2014 and earned the credentials Registered Dietitian in 2015.

What Murray enjoys most about being a dietitian is the opportunity to help people from all walks of life reach their personal health and wellness goals. Murray’s areas of specialty include weight loss, heart healthy diets, diabetes, gastrointestinal conditions, infant and pediatric nutrition, and women’s health especially during pregnancy, lactation and postpartum. Murray also loves working with athletes and those with fitness goals to maximize their athletic performance through better nutrition. 

Murray was born and raised in central Virginia and participated in sports and athletics from youth to the collegiate level. When he is not immersed in the nutrition world, Murray enjoys spending time with his family, participating and watching sports, fishing and working out. 

Nutrition appointments with Murray are available at Colonial Heights on Monday evenings and Chester on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. 

Diahnn Thompkins

Registered Dietitian at:

American Family Fitness Williamsburg

 

Diahnn is the Registered Dietitian at the Williamsburg American Family Fitness location. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science from Pacific Lutheran University and a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Marywood University. She is also a graduate of the Eating Disorder Institute at Plymouth State University.

Diahnn’s coaching philosophy involves mastering the art of continuous improvement by striving to be 1% better each day. She enjoys helping people develop a “doers” mentality and practice behaviors that positively impact health, support fitness goals, and meet lifestyle demands. 

Diahnn has a diverse professional background, which includes serving in the U.S. Army, where she spearheaded several Physical Training programs. She worked as the Campus Dietitian at Plymouth State University which allowed her the opportunity to work with various wellness organizations, athletes, as well as faculty and staff. As an Adjunct Professor at the university, she teaches Applied Nutrition to Health and Human Performance Majors. She also has experience working in Diabetes Management and Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation settings. Diahnn’s additional accreditations include Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), Lifestyle Eating and Performance (LEAP) therapist, and Mindful Eating facilitator. 

Diahnn’s favorite past time is running road races, training for a physique competition, and dancing. 

Nutrition appointments with Diahnn are available at Williamsburg on Tuesday evenings, and Wednesday and Saturday mornings. She is looking forward to meeting you!  

Samantha Fauler

Registered Dietitian at:

American Family Fitness Fredericksburg

 

Samantha Fauler is the Registered Dietitian at the Fredericksburg American Family Fitness location. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of the District of Columbia and completed her Dietetic Internship at Iowa State University.   

Since earning the credentials Registered Dietitian in 2014, Sam has provided nutrition counseling to women, children, and infants through the federally funded program WIC (Women, Infants, and Children). In 2016, she became a Certified Lactation Counseling (CLC). Sam’s areas of specialty include weight loss, heart-healthy diets, diabetes, and sports nutrition. Her personal experience as a Division I Rower has given her valuable insight on the importance of nutrition in maximizing athletic performance. Sam also has experience providing nutritional care at several skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. 

When Sam is not working, you’re likely to find her working out at the gym or exploring the outdoors.

Mara Fiorio

Registered Dietitian at:

American Family Fitness Virginia Center Commons

Mara Fiorio is the Registered Dietitian at the Virginia Center Commons (VCC) American Family Fitness location. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from Virginia Tech. Mara completed her Dietetic Internship at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which provided her with the unique experience of becoming bilingual in Spanish while expanding her nutrition knowledge and skills.

 

Professionally, Mara enjoys the relationships she develops with her clients through nutrition counseling. She strives to help people reach their personal health and wellness goals through education, customized nutrition, support and encouragement. Her areas of specialty include diabetes management, weight loss, kidney disease management, heart healthy diets, and pediatric nutrition.

 

When Mara is not working, you are likely to find her working on her own personal wellness and fitness goals. As a new resident of Richmond, Mara uses running as a way to explore the city, and in February 2019, she completed her first marathon! Mara is determined to keep pushing the boundaries of what she can do, so be sure to ask her about her next goal!

 

Nutrition appointments with Mara are available at American Family Fitness Virginia Center commons on Monday and Wednesday evenings and most Saturdays. 

Callie Yakubisin

Registered Dietitian at:

American Family Fitness Mechanicsville

Callie Yakubisin is the Registered Dietitian at the Mechanicsville American Family Fitness location. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics from the University of Pittsburgh and completed her Dietetic Internship at Iowa State University.   

She earned the credentials of Registered Dietitian in 2013. Callie’s experience includes nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy in the clinical setting, public speaking, and nutrition promotion. Callie’s areas of specialty include weight management, performance nutrition, and chronic disease management. Her personal experience as a marathon runner has molded her insight of proper fueling techniques for endurance athletes. Callie is dedicated to meeting your personal health goals and loves her job because she loves helping people.

Outside of work, Callie is probably either running or cooking up a new dish to share with her husband and friends.

Nutrition appointments with Callie are available on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings along with select Thursday evenings and Saturdays.
